Laryngeal activity in Barabian and the Surgut dialect of Khanty

This paper describes laryngeal activity in two Siberian languages of different genealogical origins: Baraba-Tatar (Turkic) and the Surgut dialect of Khanty (Ob-Ugric). Direct digital laryngoscopy was used alongside acoustic analysis. The results show that the larynx actively participates in vowel production in both languages. The findings support previous MRI investigations and demonstrate that laryngeal movement is an important component of vowel articulation in these languages.
