Proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Linguistic Research and Applications
Vol. 17Welcome to the Linguistics 2025 International Conference on Linguistic Research and Applications. This hybrid event enables in-person participation in Paris, thanks to the hospitality of Inalco, while also welcoming participants joining online from around the world.
As an international forum for linguists at all career stages, the Society is dedicated to advancing the study of language through rigorous research and its diverse applications. We encourage both early-career and established researchers to engage with current developments in linguistics and related disciplines.
The origins of this conference series date back to 2006 in Athens with the first Workshop on Experimental Linguistics (ExLing), organised under the auspices of ESCA (now ISCA). The workshop was subsequently hosted in cities such as Paris, Saint Petersburg, and Lisbon, and later developed into the annual ExLing Conference under the International Society of Experimental Linguistics.
In 2024, the ExLing Society was restructured as the International Linguistic Society, reflecting a broader vision of hosting multiple conference series throughout the year and providing ongoing opportunities for scholarly exchange.
This volume presents the proceedings of Linguistics 2025 Paris, covering core areas of linguistics alongside a range of applied and interdisciplinary perspectives.
We extend our sincere thanks to all Linguistics 2025 Paris participants, our keynote speakers—Ad Neeleman and Greville Corbett—and colleagues from the International Advisory Committee, the Review Committee, and the Organising Committee for their invaluable contributions to the success of the conference.

Since 2019 it has been organised annually as the International Conference of Experimental Linguistics.
The ExLing 2024 Paris conference included three special sessions focusing on Experimental Phonetics, Language Education, and Language Pathology. In addition, the conference introduced the Language Application Exhibition, a new initiative showcasing technological applications of language research and encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration in the development of language technologies.
The editors would like to thank all authors and participants for their contributions to the conference. We also extend our appreciation to the keynote speakers Mirjam Ernestus, Valerie Shafer, and Jenny Thomson, as well as the members of the International Advisory Committee, the Review Committee, and the Organising Committee, whose efforts made the conference and this volume possible.

Proceedings of 12th International Conference of Experimental Linguistics
Vol. 12Welcome to the 12th International Conference of Experimental Linguistics (ExLing 2021). Due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s conference is held fully online, following the format of ExLing 2020.
Our Society is defined by a collective commitment to understanding language through the development of experimental methods in linguistics. It serves as an established international forum where both new and experienced researchers engage with developments in linguistic research and experimental methodologies.
ExLing began in 2006 in Athens as an International Speech Communication Association (ISCA) ExLing Workshop. It has since been hosted in cities including Paris, Saint Petersburg, Heraklion, and Lisbon, and has been established as an annual International Conference of Experimental Linguistics since 2019.
ExLing 2021 returns to Athens in origin, while being held virtually. This format allows us to explore how technology can facilitate meaningful academic exchange, while maintaining the strong sense of community central to the Society. To support wider participation, ExLing Society members have been granted free access to the conference.
