Vol. 12: Proceedings of 12th International Conference of Experimental Linguistics
Welcome to the 12th International Conference of Experimental Linguistics (ExLing 2021). Due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s conference is held fully online, following the format of ExLing 2020.
Our Society is defined by a collective commitment to understanding language through the development of experimental methods in linguistics. It serves as an established international forum where both new and experienced researchers engage with developments in linguistic research and experimental methodologies.
ExLing began in 2006 in Athens as an International Speech Communication Association (ISCA) ExLing Workshop. It has since been hosted in cities including Paris, Saint Petersburg, Heraklion, and Lisbon, and has been established as an annual International Conference of Experimental Linguistics since 2019.
ExLing 2021 returns to Athens in origin, while being held virtually. This format allows us to explore how technology can facilitate meaningful academic exchange, while maintaining the strong sense of community central to the Society. To support wider participation, ExLing Society members have been granted free access to the conference.
This volume presents the proceedings of ExLing 2021, including the main conference and two special sessions focusing on experimental methods and current topics in Language Education and Language Pathology.
We would like to thank all ExLing 2021 participants and our keynote speakers—Edward Gibson, Robert J. Hartsuiker, Charles Hulme, Kathy Rastle, and Martin Pickering—as well as the International Advisory Committee and the Review Committee for their contributions to the successful outcome of the conference.
