Abstract

Despite the progress made in the use of corpus linguistics (CL) through proposals developed by well-known authors such as Aijmer (2009), Reppen (2010), and Granger (1998), there are still few examples of its implementation in the Hispanic sphere, for example in Spain through Alcina and Gamero (2002), and in Chile through Parodi (2010). Furthermore, except for the case of the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, corpus linguistics is not widely used in Mexico as an electronic resource for learning English, particularly in language teaching or translation. This paper presents a working method applied to a translation course for undergraduate students of English Language at the Universidad Veracruzana. The study considers the use of Sketch Engine and One Click Term Extractor in order to assess the kind of impact (positive, negative, or null) such tools may have when used to solve translation tasks involving engineering and medical texts.
